During my time as a photographer, I’ve done a few sessions on boats, but never something quite like this! Mekalah & Julian had the most stunning engagement photos on the water at Moshulu in Philadelphia. Keep reading to see how their session turned out!
Romantic, Titanic-Inspired Engagement Session
As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been with a few couples who had their session on a boat, but nothing as grand as this. The Moshulu is a European cargo ship built before WWI and is now a fully restored ship that houses a fine-dining restaurant. The couple was getting married on the water in Lewes, Delaware, and wanted to pay homage to their wedding venue.
The photos truly speak for themselves. They are a beautiful collection that emphasizes everything grand, moody, romantic, and a touch of vintage. Of course, a large ship like this makes me think of the iconic Titanic, and a few photos reminded me of some scenes from the movie.
We had them get drinks at the bar and sit down at a table by one of the windows to enjoy each other’s company. I also had them dance a bit—him twirling her around. They both had so much fun during their session. They were very confident and happy to do anything the other person asked. They truly just wanted to make each other happy. We utilized almost every aspect of the ship. We found a cute nook where she could sit on the ledge and look out the window, and we did a few poses there that I loved. We also, of course, had to take photos on the staircase. This truly gave me all of the emotions and feels. They were so gentle and loving, and wanted their photos to reflect that! We eventually made our way outside, where it was gloomy and raining, but it was perfect for the mood we were going for! The couple brought an umbrella, and we incorporated that into the photos. This portion truly felt like you were taken back in time. It was perfect in every way.

Mekalah & Julian’s engagement photos at the Moshulu were everything I could have dreamed of—romantic, timeless, and full of genuine connection.
